About AHBS Community Radio
AHBS Community Radio broadcasts on 107.1FM to Ashford, Kent and features a wide variety of music together with community news and information. You can also hear our Events Diary and Community Focus updates three times each hour during the day with information on a range of events, activities, fundraising and voluntary services in Ashford.
Each weekday evening from 7-9pm and on Sundays from 5pm join us for the evening request show, produced by AHBS Hospital Radio live from the William Harvey Hospital with requests, dedications and great music. You can join in wherever you are with a free call to the studios from within the hospital or by phone or email to studio@ahbs,org.uk from anywhere! We also have speciality music programmes focusing on the local music scene with Tuesday's "Rock Hard" and Wednesday's "The Wood and the Wire" (folk & acoustic) from 9pm. Each week "The Radio Forum" discussed issues of relevance to local residents, specifically looking at local public bodies, charities, community groups and the local democratic process. Conningbrook Lakes gets planning permission

Planning permission has officially been given for a new country park in Ashford.
The green light was given to the Conningbrook Lakes project on Wednesday 15th May, following two years of hard work and detailed consultation by landowners The Brett Group and Ashford Borough Council.
The site by the Julie Rose Stadium, formerly used for quarrying sand and gravel, will eventually be transformed into a vibrant country park with water-based activities for groups and individuals, foot and cyclepaths, nature trails, a water-front restaurant, and a lakeside village of 300 homes
Ashford Borough Council has also been granted planning permission for initial use of the land prior to the houses being built, meaning work can now start to make some sections of the park available for sports clubs and the general public early next year.
Further development of the long-term facilities will be linked to funding from the phased housing development.
Ashford Borough Council Head of Cultural and Project services Mark Carty said: “This is the culmination of two years of hard work. The overall business plan for this project was accepted by the council last year, but now we can turn this vision into a reality for Ashford.
“Conningbrook Lakes will ultimately be one of the best facilities of its kind in the South East, offering a combination of sailing, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, walking, cycling and family friendly leisure all in one place, and in stunning surroundings.
“Conningbrook will also retain and develop its status as an angling venue of regional and national significance, and the local wildlife will benefit from the re-creation and enhancement of wetland meadow, lakeside and riverside habitats throughout the site.
“We are currently finalising arrangements with a number of specialist partner organisations that will work with us to operate and manage the country park and will be making further announcements once these are concluded”.
A spokesman for the Brett Group said: "We are delighted that the country park project has won such wide support within the local community and look forward to it becoming a reality.
“We can now discuss the approved scheme for the lakeside village with developers, a number of whom are showing a strong interest in what Conningbrook Lakes has to offer as a desirable new housing location.
“The timing of the development is linked to our finalising an agreement with developers, which we hope to achieve in the near future."
