Date Posted: 10th October 2018

Congratulations to staff at NFU Mutual and Hobbs Parker in Ashford who raised £782 for MacMillan Cancer Support by joining in with their flagship fundraising event, the ‘World's Biggest Coffee Morning', and holding a charity bake-sale at Ashford's Invicta Business Centre on 28th September 2018. Many local visitors, farmers and businesses came along to the event, where locals could choose from an array of homemade and locally sourced baked goods on offer.

Goodies made by some of the 30 strong team included Gemma Jeffrey's Biscuits, Tracey Taylor's Lemmon Drizzle Cake, Selina Carters Gluten Free Brownies and the show stopper, Andrea Hartnolls Fruit Cake which was raffled for £2 a ticket. Drawn by the local farmers it was surprisingly won by NFU Mutual's very own Agent, Phil Cornish.

The funds raised will allow MacMillan Cancer Support to continue providing emotional, financial, medical and practical support to people affected by cancer.

She said "This charity is close to my heart and the staff at the NFU Mutual Ashford Agency and our local branch of Hobbs and Parker were very receptive to the idea and collaboration for a bake-sale. Many were quick to supply some very tasty goodies and help to promote serve and provided support throughout the day. I am happy to have joined such a fantastic team".

Andrea Hartnoll, Secretary at Hobbs & Parker has taken part in the MacMillan Coffee Morning for the past five years; "I have experienced the support myself after needing the services of the MacMillan Nurses when I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013 – they do a wonderful job and were very helpful, caring and understanding," she said. "We always hold the cake sale on a Tuesday or Friday when we have the farmers in - who are very generous and enjoy a cake or two."
