On Remembrance Sunday (11th November), Ashford will be holding a service in the Memorial Gardens at 11am.
If you are planning on attending you are advised to arrive 10 minutes before the service begins, however you'll be welcome to assemble from 10am onwards.
The gate on Church Road will remain locked all morning until after the service has finished, so entrance to the gardens is via Station Road, Vicarage Lane or the entrance near the College. There is no access to the War Memorial Garden for the general public, however, some areas of vegetation surrounding the war memorial garden have been removed and a twenty foot screen will be in place to ensure the public can easily view the service.
Orders of Service will be available to members of the public on entering the Memorial Gardens and those wishing to lay wreath at the War Memorial and plant crosses in the Garden of Remembrance may do so once the service is concluded.
The service will start at 11am when a maroon will be fired to mark the start of the two minute silence which will end by the firing of a second maroon. Both maroons will be fired from the Kent Wool Growers Site.
Ashford Borough Council is warning that there will be restricted access to the Memorial Gardens from Church Road however, you will be able to access the gardens via the Vicarage Lane, Station Road and Ashford College entrances.
Visitors and residents are advised to take advantage of the free parking in Vicarage Lane car park which is adjacent to St Marys Church. Alternatively, visitors can park in Edinburgh Road car park which is free every Sunday.
